Providing medical device strategy research gives the Medi-Vantage team the chance to predict the future for our clients. So, when MDDI asked my opinions on December 2019 about the future of medtech and gamechangers for 2020, I was ready to talk.
MDDI reports that most of the predictions have been spot on, although for different reasons than many expected (who predicted COVID-19 back in late 2019?)[i].
Digital Health and 5G
I was thrilled when MDDI used my quote citing 5G as a trend to watch in 2020.
The MDDI article quoted me as saying:
“Digital health is king and 5G is its crown. The quality and speed of a 5G network are imperative for positive outcomes. For example, 5G can support large healthcare systems through real-time transmission of large imaging files. Specialists will be able to review and advise on patient care and augment a local doctor's ability to deliver care that provide the best outcomes through remote and reliable monitoring of patients.”
Wearables
I am a huge believer in gaining the power of digital health through wearables.
For the same article, Daphne Allen, the editor at MDDI, asked me about other imminent medical device trends. The conversation turned to wearables because in 2019, I became convinced that wearables would be an important future trend, based on much of the research Medi-Vantage has done in this space.
Daphne asked me for specifics on why wearable technologies would help address our most paramount healthcare unmet needs. I shared the results of a survey[ii] that stated that greater than 58% of people are willing to wear wearable tech, making it a critical source of advanced care for patients. "Wearables will help patients get health support proactively and improve patient outcomes."
